My Favorite Part of the Trip
On the way to the airport yesterday, totally out of the blue, my mother started talking about the End Times. If you weren’t raised by protestant evangelicals, you may not know about the End Times. I don’t think other religions pay that much attention to the book of Revelation, or take it quite so literally and prophetically.
From the driver’s seat my sister said, “Actually, Mom, most biblical scholars agree that the book of Revelation is an allegory of the fall of the Roman Empire. It was read as such for about 1800 years, and it was only relatively recently that people began imposing other interpretations on the text.”
If you knew my family, you’d understand why this was such a beautiful moment.
I could almost hear the wheels turning in my poor mother’s head. First she marries a Catholic, and now this!
